How do Embroidered Socks Work?
First, determine the embroidery position through the fixed plate. The size of the fixed plate limits the embroidery area, and currently the largest fixed plate is 5cm wide. At the same time, the fixed plate cannot be fixed on the sole of the foot, so the embroidery is usually done at the position of the rubber band on the upper tube of the socks. The time and embroidery area for embroidering a pair are compared to each other. The larger the area, the more frames are required and the more time is spent. At present, the conventional embroidery machine rotates at around 600-800 revolutions/minute. If embroidering a logo requires 8000 stitches, then one logo will take 10 minutes.
The precision of the embroidery machine affects the logo. If the precision is not enough, the embroidered logo will have exposed white, incomplete, and may also have misalignment, resulting in logo deformation.
Embroidery patterns are more three-dimensional and durable, with noticeable textures and layers when touched, and are not easily faded or peeled off due to washing or wear. Embroidery thread usually has excellent wear resistance and color stability, ensuring that socks maintain a good appearance even after frequent use.
Embroidery requires professional machines and skilled operators, with a long production cycle, and the cost of embroidery thread is higher than that of ordinary printing materials. Due to the limited color types of embroidery thread, it may not be possible to fully achieve some complex or gradient color designs, and is also limited by production conditions. The maximum size of embroidery is 5cm.
Embroidered logo VS Knitted logo
Embroidery
Embroidered logos on finished socks are more expensive to process
The logo has raised patterns with a sense of hierarchy
Knitted
The logo can be placed all over the sock body. Only the heel and interweaving positions cannot make the logo, and pixelation limits the logo to not be too small.
Embroidery Placement Guide
Choose the best logo position for comfort, visibility and durability. For most custom embroidered socks, we recommend placing the logo on the outer cuff or upper leg area.
Outer Cuff
Best for brand logos, team marks and small icons. This is the most popular placement because the logo is easy to see and does not affect comfort.
Upper Leg Area
Ideal for corporate gifts, events and retail branding. The upper leg area gives your logo a clean and professional look, especially on crew socks and dress socks.
Side Ankle
Good for small initials or simple symbols. This position works well for minimalist designs, but the logo size should stay small for better comfort.
Not Recommended: Sole, Toe or Heel
Embroidery is not recommended on the sole, toe or heel area. These areas have more friction during wear, which may affect comfort and durability.
Recommended embroidery size: within 5cm. Simple logos, letters, icons and small graphics work best.
Embroidered Logo vs Knitted Logo: Which One Should You Choose?
Both embroidery and knitted logos can create high-quality custom socks, but they are suitable for different design needs. Send us your logo and we can recommend the best method for your order.
| Option | Best For | Advantages | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embroidered Logo | Small logos, brand marks, initials, team icons and corporate gifts | Raised texture, premium look, durable finish and strong brand visibility | Best within 5cm, limited placement and higher cost than knitted logos |
| Knitted Logo | Larger patterns, full-sock designs, repeated logos and colorful graphics | Soft feel, integrated into the sock, suitable for bulk production and more flexible placement | Very small details may look less sharp and may not be ideal for complex tiny logos |
Choose Embroidery If:
- Your logo is small and simple
- You want a raised and premium texture
- You need socks for corporate gifts, teams or events
- You want the logo to look more high-end
Choose Knitted Logo If:
- Your design covers a larger area
- You want patterns around the whole sock
- You need a softer integrated design
- You want a more cost-effective option for bulk orders

What logo size can be embroidered on socks?
We usually recommend keeping the embroidery area within 5cm for better comfort and clean logo details.
Where can the logo be embroidered?
The most common position is the outer cuff or upper leg area. Embroidery is not recommended on the sole because it may affect comfort and durability.
What types of designs are best for embroidery?
Simple logos, letters, icons and small graphics work best. Complex gradients or very detailed artwork may be better made with knitted or printed methods.
